About Matt Pocock Skills

Matt Pocock Skills (GitHub: mattpocock/skills) is a public collection of the agent skills Matt Pocock says he uses every day "to do real engineering - not vibe coding". Each skill is a SKILL.md instruction folder that a coding agent loads on demand. The repository is MIT-licensed and, per its README, is designed to be small, easy to adapt and composable, and to work with any model, in contrast to heavier frameworks that try to own the whole process.

The main flow runs from idea to shipped change: /grill-with-docs interviews you about a plan and records a shared project glossary and decisions, /to-spec turns the conversation into a spec, /to-tickets splits it into small tickets, /implement builds them test-first with /tdd, /code-review checks the diff against your standards and the spec, and /retro suggests repo improvements afterwards. Other skills cover bug diagnosis, prototyping, research, PR descriptions, handoff documents between agents and writing instructions for agents. A one-time /setup-matt-pocock-skills run per repo configures the issue tracker (GitHub, GitLab, local files or another), triage labels and where docs are saved.

Installation depends on the agent: Claude Code installs it as a plugin from the official Anthropic plugin directory (claude-plugins-official), Codex and GitHub Copilot add it as a plugin marketplace, Gemini CLI installs the skill folders directly, and any other skills-compatible agent (Cursor, OpenCode, Devin, Windsurf, Amp, Pi) can use npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills, which copies editable files into the project. aihero.dev/skills lists 27 skills grouped by when you reach for them.

The skills are free; you only pay for the coding agent and model you already use. The repository had about 295,000 GitHub stars on October 18, 2026.
