Google Cloud Data Agent Kit is a set of Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools and Google-authored agent skills that gives the coding agent you already use context about your Google Cloud data environment. Google announced general availability on September 30, 2026, and positions it for agents such as Antigravity, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor rather than as a separate data assistant.
The MCP tools connect agents to more than 15 Google Data Cloud services so they can inspect schemas, run queries, read job logs and manage resources in a live environment. Coverage spans analytics with BigQuery and BigQuery Graph, operational databases including Spanner, AlloyDB for PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL and Bigtable, the Lakehouse with Apache Iceberg tables and serverless Managed Service for Apache Spark, and pipelines with dbt, Dataform and Managed Service for Apache Airflow. The skills, published under Apache 2.0, teach practices such as optimizing BigQuery SQL, designing Bigtable row keys and building dbt pipelines, and steer agents toward cost-aware patterns like dry runs before large queries.
It installs as an extension for VS Code, Antigravity IDE, Cursor and other VS Code-compatible editors, which also adds a lightweight Google Cloud console with a catalog explorer, SQL editor and notebooks, or as a plugin for Antigravity 2.0, Antigravity CLI, Claude Code and Codex; it is pre-installed in Cloud Shell and Cloud Workstations. After signing in and choosing services, it enables the required APIs, installs matching skills and configures the MCP servers.
The agent connects as you or as an impersonated service account, so IAM and row- and column-level security apply, and administrators can govern MCP access with IAM, Model Armor, VPC Service Controls and Principal Access Boundary policies. Data Agent Kit itself costs nothing extra; you pay standard pricing for the Google Cloud services the agent uses.
According to the plugin repository README, Data Agent Kit collects usage statistics, such as when its skills and MCP tools are used, but not user code, file contents or application data values; this can be turned off with DO_NOT_TRACK=1 or by setting enableTelemetry to false in ~/.data_agent_kit/config.json.
