pricing over time
AI coding subscription price index
This index is built from recorded price moves rather than a one-off scrape, which means it cannot be backdated: it starts the day tracking started and fills in from there.
Edition October 2026 · computed Oct 1, 2026
23 / 30 days of recorded history
The index publishes once there is history to plot
474 tools already carry recorded pricing; what is missing is elapsed time. Publishing now would be a snapshot of today wearing the clothes of a trend.
See current prices insteadHow this was computed
- The index is a replay of the change log, not a stored series: the price of a plan on any date is the last row recorded at or before that date.
- A tool contributes one figure per month — its cheapest plan with a real monthly cost, the same headline price the rest of the catalog reports read.
- Non-USD, usage-metered, one-time and quote-only plans have no honest monthly equivalent, so they are excluded rather than converted at a guessed rate.
- Only active tools count. A discontinued tool leaves the index entirely, past months included — its last price is history, not a rate anyone can still pay.
- The series starts on Aug 28, 2026, the first row in the log, and cannot show anything before it: prices that moved before tracking began were never observed.
